October 29, 2012 – Toronto, ON
We’ve all got our favorite holiday songs, those that transport us back to a special moment in time with family and friends. Eleanor McCain’s Holiday release does just that – these songs will not only put a smile on your loved one’s face, but help make a real and lasting difference this holiday season.
For every download from www.eleanormccain.ca, Eleanor will donate 10% of the proceeds to Hospice Toronto. Eleanor developed a connection to Hospice Toronto following the death of her father last year. Then, she witnessed firsthand the critical role compassionate, in-home hospice palliative care played in supporting her father’s wish to remain at home, and to live with comfort and dignity, surrounded by family and friends.
“My father wanted to spend his last days in the comforts of his home when he was experiencing the end of his battle with pancreatic cancer,” said Eleanor McCain. “I saw first-hand the profound work hospice caregivers provide for patients at the end of their lives.
It is now her wish that this album, as well as future albums, have a philanthropic thread running through them that supports hospice palliative care long term, as well as other like causes. “Because these special caregivers were able to help my father cope with the challenges at the end of his illness, we were able to focus our energy on spending quality time with him. They were a support to not just my father, but the whole family.”
Started in 1988, Hospice Toronto is Toronto’s first not for profit, volunteer-based, in-home hospice palliative care program. It has become a recognized leader in providing high-quality, hospice care and support for people through all the phases of their life-threatening illness, and their loved ones, at no charge.
“With our rapidly aging population and people living longer with chronic illness, we feel truly honoured to have Eleanor McCain raise public awareness about in-home hospice palliative care in our communities, and generously support our work through her beautiful music”, said Dena Maule, Executive Director for Hospice Toronto.
“I am so grateful to have had such profound private moments at home with my father, all done with care and dignity,” said McCain. “I support the tremendous work of Hospice Toronto because of my personal experience, my empathy for those who are suffering and because of the caring support hospice workers bring to patients in palliative care in Toronto.”
You can catch Eleanor in a variety of cities leading up to the holiday season.

About Eleanor McCain
Born and raised in Florenceville, New Brunswick, Eleanor McCain found her voice as a young girl, singing at church, schools and community events. After graduating from the music program at New Brunswick's Mount Allison University, she moved to Toronto, to pursue her classical training. Eleanor launched her debut classical crossover album Intimate to critical and popular acclaim in June 2001. Shortly after this release, Eleanor found herself focused on the joys of motherhood. Her dream to return to the studio to record was ultimately fulfilled when she flew to Nashville and once again teamed up with renowned producer Terry Sawchuk to record Bundle of Joy, a lullaby CD that celebrates the joys of motherhood. Eleanor received a 2009 East Coast Music Award nomination for Bundle of Joy for Children's Recording of the Year. In July 2010, Eleanor completed her third CD, Green Hills of Home. For this, Eleanor received an ECMA 2011 nomination for Roots / Traditional Solo Recording of the Year. Eleanor's 2011 CD release, Holiday, is a 2-disc CD that offers holiday songs that fall into two collections creating two distinct sentiments - a "Naughty" side of up-tempo and jazzy secular selections and a "Nice" side of intimate and traditional hymns and carols. Eleanor resides in Toronto and in addition to her busy recording career, continues to focus on raising her daughter, Laura.
